Culture shock is defined as confusion and anxiety experienced by someone in a foreign environment. This program examines Latin American culture, and how it can be new and exciting, as well as very different from the US and Canada. We examine forces that define this group, including strong family ties, climate, love of music and dance, concept of time, and economic and political struggles. This program contains simulations of everyday situations to demonstrate cultural differences first-hand. We show short video clips of real people sharing their thoughts about national identity. Participants can reflect upon their own surroundings and think about how people of other cultures might perceive them.

* All materials and conference fees included in course price. Sessions can be (re)scheduled up to 48 hours in advance, Mon-Fri 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Eastern time zone. Sessions cancelled due to weather emergencies can be rescheduled. Sessions are designed for standard classroom periods of 40-60 minutes. Full refund if all requirements have been met and not satisfied.

If you have a H.323 system, or a computer connected to the Internet with a large screen and USB speakerphone, you can participate in virtual field trips. Students from home and other remote classrooms can also login and participate.

Schools may use virtual field trips as a comprehension and listening exercise, as well as for culture, history, and geography. Sessions can be held in the absence of the language teacher or as an event when school is closed.
